Happy School Board Member Recognition Week!
February 16-20, 2026
Ms. Lucinda Berryhill
WTSD Board of Trustee – District 1
Ms. Lucinda Berryhill, age 70, was born on April 29, 1955, in Tutwiler, Mississippi. She is the seventh of thirteen children and is the proud mother of three children—Bernard Berryhill, Charlander Berryhill, and Courtney Berryhill-Reynolds—as well as five grandchildren.
In November 1991, Ms. Berryhill was elected to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees of the West Tallahatchie School District, making history as the first female to serve on the West Tallahatchie School Board. Throughout her tenure, she has remained steadfast in her commitment to the community, student achievement, and academic excellence. She actively promotes parental involvement, advocates for the interests of children, and supports safe and orderly schools.
Ms. Berryhill began her employment at the Tutwiler Education Center in 1988 and continues to serve there with dedication. She is also a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Tutwiler, Mississippi, where she sings in the choir and serves on the Pastor’s Aide and Kitchen Committees.
“School board members are the backbone of strong schools. Thank you for guiding WTSD with integrity and care.”

ANNOUNCEMENT
Message from Superintendent Young:
During this time of recovery following the recent storm, please know that you remain in my thoughts and prayers. I recognize that many in our community are facing challenges, and I want you to know that you are not facing them alone.
I am deeply appreciative of everyone who continue working day and night to restore services, secure our area, and support families during this time. The dedication and willingness to serve under difficult conditions reflect the very best of our community.
Several areas of the district, including the central office, are currently without power, and damage assessments are still in progress. As we move forward, our primary focus remains the safety, health, and well-being of our students, staff, and families as you care for your households and support one another.
This is a moment for unity, patience, and vigilance. The strength of the Choctaw family has always been rooted in looking out for one another, and that spirit will carry us through. Please continue to monitor communication from our local emergency management center as well as our Facebook page and website.
Thank you for your resilience, understanding, and continued support of one another. Together, we will recover and move forward—stronger, wiser, and united in Choctaw pride.
With Choctaw Pride,
Tony Young,
Superintendent
