The R. H. Bearden Quest Gifted Enrichment Students, teachers and parents participated in the “Gifted Day at the Capitol” on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. This was an opportunity for parents and students to speak with their State Representatives about the importance of Gifted Programs and the difference the program has made in their educational journeys. The students’ behavior and attire really stood out among many representatives, organizations and others at the Capitol.

Upon arrival at the Capitol, they were greeted by a tourist guide. Once entering the Capitol, they were greeted by Representative Rosebud who took great pride in acknowledging, as he calls them, his “adopted kids”. Representative Rosebud has shown great support towards the gifted program. He proudly joined the tour and had the opportunity to collaborate with parents who were present.

After a wonderful lunch at Mama Hamils, the students were escorted to the Mississippi Highway Patrol Headquarters by Captain Cooper. The students toured the building and learned a lot about the responsibilities of the Highway Patrols and their duties to keep the highways safe. The students, parents and staff were treated to purchase an item from the Patrolman Store by Captain Cooper.

Captain Cooper met the students last year at Mama Hamils and has been very engaged with the students. The students will travel to Batesville, MS to share in a mock investigation experience with Captain Cooper, troopers, and investigators.

The group was introduced to Lt. Colonel James Ivory III, Assistant Director of MHSP and the organization’s lawyer. They spent time discussing the importance of education with the students. Lt. Colonel James Ivory was very excited about sharing his experiences with the students. He looks forward to the students' next visit.
