Ms. Pointer’s Fourth Grade class as well others including Principal Brown, teachers, staff and MDE instructors participated in a mock election. The voting process was a part of the Social Studies class. The students learned about the different branches of government as well as the affiliation of Congress members as Democrats or Republicans. Students' votes were towards both parties.
All participants were given the opportunity to cast their votes. They were also given the rules of behavior and the steps in casting their votes. Two teachers demonstrated how the security guard, who was Mr. Grant would remove voters with inappropriate behavior. Those teachers were Mrs. Wilson-Jones and Mrs. Hawkins- Gaston. Ms. Hooper and Mrs. Martin handled the identification of each participant.
Principal Brown who was actually the Assistant Principal at the time took her job very seriously. She enjoyed the experience that it gave to the participants. It was truly an educational learning experience.
