gifted students

The R. H. Bearden Elementary School Quest Gifted Enrichment Program shared a delicious Christmas meal with members of the community. The guests consisted of retired teachers of the district as well as parents, district leaders, family members, members of the MHP Troop E and other faculty members. They were cordially welcomed by Mr. Young.

Gifted involves “real life” experiences. This was an opportunity to incorporate serving others who have played a major part in educating; raising and providing wisdom towards their growth and development. The gifted students did an excellent job serving their guests and being hosts as they entered the building.

The guests not only enjoyed the meal but the opportunity to see positive things that are going on in the West Tallahatchie School District.  They participated in a game that consisted of a picture of a house. They had to choose what part of the house they were. It was fun and they really interacted with the activity. Some said they were the foundation, the door, the chimney and the windows. We related these parts as being parts of the children's lives. For example, the door and windows were an open opportunity for the children. The door bell was answering when a child or family calls upon them for help. The shutter was reminding us never to shut out a child or family because of who they are. Hopefully more family and community activities can be done in the near future.
