The R. H. Bearden Gifted Enrichment Program students took a phenomenal trip to the Mississippi Aquarium and the INFINITY Science Center (Stennis Space Center). The students had the opportunity to explore the different habitats. They were allowed to touch some of the animals. They were nervous at first, but took advantage of the experience. Some of the animals they touched were stingrays, shrimps, and baby sharks. The students were amazed!
The students challenged the chaperons at the INFINITY Space Center. Unfortunately, the chaperons lost to students Yanis Johnson and Aubriegh Willis. One of the words that the students were told to focus on was perseverance.
The instructor was proud of the students' perseverance and participation. We also watched a 3D movie about astronauts and were able to pretend that we were astronauts preparing to fix an oil tank under water. The students had the opportunity to experience many forms of technology that astronauts deal with on a daily basis. The Center was very educational and the students had lots of fun. They took lots of pictures to share with their families.
The students' meals at Shaggy's gave them the opportunity to visit the waters of the Gulf Coast. They enjoyed walking in the sand and the water felt warm to their feet. They said that they felt as though they were sinking. The students said that it was really "cool". The students loved their meals and said that it was delicious. They would also like to thank Representative Rosebud for taking care of the expenses of two of the meals once we arrived on the coast.
Their last stop was Mama Hamil's where of course their positive behavior gained them more recognition. They were being stopped and questioned by other guests about their school district. Their names and ages were complimented about their behavior. Captain Cooper dined
with the students. They presented him with a song and thank you cards. He invited the group and their families to his TROOP E Christmas gathering and other events.
The Gifted Program would like to thank the chaperons and bus driver who devoted their time and efforts to make sure that the trip was safe and exciting for the students. They are really appreciated. To be honest , the chaperons had just as much fun as the students. Again, we would like to thank our school district and everyone who made this trip possible.
