Mr. Tony Young, Superintendent

Mr. Tony Young was appointed as the new superintendent of West Tallahatchie School District on January 1, 2025.

Superintendent Young is an educator and parent who has served the constituents of Tallahatchie County for more than eighteen years. Previously, Superintendent Young served as a teacher, coach, bus driver, assistant principal, principal, and federal programs/curriculum director in the West Tallahatchie School District. He also served as a principal in Coahoma County and Sunflower County School Districts.

Like many of Tallahatchie County’s public school students, Superintendent Young came from humble beginnings. His mother was a business owner. His father was a factory worker, and his step-father was a farmer and truck driver.

Mr. Young is a 1993 graduate of West Tallahatchie High School. He earned his undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with a focus in Mathematics from Mississippi Valley State University, a Master's degree in Education from Delta State University, and a Specialist in Education Leadership from North Central University.

Superintendent Young is active in his community. He is a member of Clarksdale, MS Alumni Chapter (Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated). Also, he is the proud pastor of Pleasant Hope M.B. Church in Lambert, MS and an active member of Union Grove M.B. Church in Clarksdale, MS.

Mr. Young resides in Clarksdale, MS with his spouse, Tammy Young, a supervisor at the Division of Medicaid in Clarksdale, MS. They have three sons, Justin, Tony Jr, Jaydee, and one daughter, Carolelynn. He has one grandchild, Ja’Karye.

Mr. Young's mission is to ensure each learner is provided a quality education that enables students the opportunity to successfully meet the demands of a rapidly changing society.
