Dr. Sherry Ellington Superintendent
Dr. Sherry Thomas Ellington was appointed the new superintendent of West Tallahatchie School District on January 24, 2020.
Superintendent Ellington is an educator and parent, who has served the people of Tallahatchie County for more than twenty-five years. Previously, Superintendent Ellington served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and RTI coordinator in the district.
Like many of Tallahatchie's public school students, Superintendent Ellington came from humble beginnings. Her mother was a homemaker and her father was a soldier during WWII and he worked in Tallahatchie County and Coahoma County for many years.
Dr. Ellington earned her undergraduate degree from Mississippi Valley State University, a Master's degree from Delta State University, and a Doctorate degree from North Central University.
Superintendent Ellington is active in her community. She is a member of Iota Delta Omega Chapter (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated) in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Also, she is an active member of New Covenant M.B. Church in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Dr. Ellington has served as a member on the Tutwiler Community Board.
Dr. Ellington resides in Tutwiler with her spouse, Jimmy, a general carpenter. They have two sons, Jimmy (Balencia), Jeremy (Camesha), and one daughter, Jessica. She has two grandchildren, Peyton and Jimmy III.
Dr. Ellington's mission is to ensure each learner is provided a quality education that enables students the opportunity to successfully meet the demands of a rapidly changing society.
